NAME:
Erika Lee
AGE:
31
HOMEBASE:
Im from Brownsville, Tx! Usually I skate in my own town, whether its at Oliveira skatepark, Brownsville Sports Park on the trail, street, and skatepark,Event Center trails, or any smooth street. The farthest I’ve gone is to the rink in Harlingen.
How long have you been skating? What got you into skating and when did you start taking it serious?
My mom got me into rollerskating at the age of 7, but I stopped when I outgrew the BEST skates I have ever owned. Then at the age of 21 my BFF got me to try out for roller derby with her, but I quit that as well when I didn’t make the team, since I felt very discouraged. Then At the age of 30 is when I got very serious about rollerskating, when I went to visit my folks and I noticed that my sister took it upon herself to claim my old derby skates (which I didn’t mind), so I tried ’em on for a quick indoor skate and it just made want to pick it up as a hobby once more. So I bought a new pair at academy and i have been skating for a year now!
What skates are you rockin and rollin at the moment?
My skates range from Impalas or Jackson skates, whatever I’m in the mood for wearing. And I am impatiently waiting for my Moxi Lollys to come in!
What is so special about skating to you?
There are so many things! But the main ones are how much I LOVE how genuinely happy and liberating it makes me feel. How its a never ending learning process and keeps you focused. There are so many things to do on skates, which never occurred to me that could be done, I just thought skating was cruising and rink skating, thats it! Haha! And the best thing that makes it special is how many other skaters you meet and come together, you are all there to motivate, hype, and push each other to do better!
Favorite spot to skate?
My favorite spot to skate is this newly constructed, empty road just across my neighborhood. Its so private and very smooth.
What would you add to the skating community if you had the power?
Oh man! I would add a beginner friendly skatepark with baby bowls and a pumping track! And an outdoor roller rink, that would be so fun!
Any advice to new skaters thinking about getting wheels for the first time or coming back?
Just get those 8 wheels on your feet and practice, practice, PRACTICE! I promise you will not be disappointed!
